EDITOR'S LETTER
You'll notice that our cover stars in this issue are a little older than usual.
Don't worry, we're still mad about babies and toddlers but we figure there's plenty of room for the bigger kids, too...
There's so much to learn during those tricky baby and toddler years (which is why we've included stories about switching to solids and how much should your toddler eat in the latest issue. But the parenting rollercoaster doesn't stop there. Many mums tell me that in hindsight, breastfeeding, pottytraining and even those sleepless nights were easy when compared to the challenges that come with school-age children. That's why we're now catering to families with children of all ages from the tiny to the pre-teen. Afterall, many households are juggling quite a few ages and stages at once.
In Hola Baby we take a look at early language lessons and the race to raise bilingual babies. Another another example of the hyper-parenting trend or a window of opportunity to help expand young minds?
There's also a few new columns in this issue that will become permanent fixtures. Naturopath Nicholas Smith will now be sharing plenty of natural health secrets. His first Natural Health column reveals some sleep-inducing tricks for the whole family.
Obstetric registrar Dr Christopher Smith also joins our team and tees off with an entertaining guide to pregnancy for new dads using a few quotes from golfing greats. He also begins a regular column, An Obstetric Registrar's View - the first installment takes a look at the controversial topic of sex selection and dispels a few old wives tales.
But my personal favourite column in this issue is the hilarious Bad Dads column penned by the talented Stuart Gregor.
Finally, as a Father's Day special, we talk with cricket legend and proud father of four Justin Langer.
Please let us know what you think of the new look Australian Parents. And don't forget it's your last chance to win $10,000 by entering Baby of the Year 2008. The winner will appear on our October/November cover. Till then,
Jody Scott, Editor
